Overview

A QSR environment lives and dies by speed.

Burger King’s presence within Welcome Break motorway service stations serves a high-volume, time-pressured customer base: drivers, families, and travellers who need to make ordering decisions quickly. Slow menus, outdated pricing, and static content create friction at exactly the wrong moment.

As part of a nine-year partnership within the Welcome Break estate, IUF delivered a full indoor and outdoor digital display upgrade. Inside, LCD digital menu boards replaced static displays with real-time pricing, promotions, and calorie information. Outside, weatherproof high-brightness LCD totems at drive-thru points warm up orders before customers reach the window.

All displays are integrated with the Welcome Break estate CMS, giving Burger King the ability to update menus, pricing, and promotional content instantly across every location.

Journey & Experience

The menu board is the first sales tool. The drive-thru screen is the second. Both have to work every time.

  • Indoor LCD digital menu boards – real-time pricing, promotions, calorie information, and limited-time offers across all Burger King Welcome Break restaurants
  • Outdoor weatherproof LCD totems – high-brightness, positioned at drive-thru approach points to reduce ordering friction and improve throughput

Technology Architecture

One CMS, shared across the Welcome Break estate, giving Burger King the speed to update at the pace of a live QSR environment.

Core Infrastructure

  • Welcome Break CMS integration – all displays connected to the centralised content management system across the full estate
  • Real-time update capability – pricing, promotions, calorie information, and LTO content updateable instantly

Hardware Ecosystem

  • Indoor LCD digital menu boards – all Burger King Welcome Break restaurant interiors
  • Outdoor weatherproof LCD totems – high-brightness, drive-thru facing

Support Model

  • Seven-day on-site support across all locations
  • Nine-year operational partnership – ongoing delivery and infrastructure management

Deployed across live, trading QSR environments without interrupting service during peak motorway trading periods.

Phase 1 – Indoor Rollout

  • LCD menu boards installed across all Burger King Welcome Break restaurant interiors
  • CMS configured for real-time pricing and promotional content
  • Calorie information display confirmed in line with regulatory requirements

Phase 2 – Outdoor Drive-Thru

  • Weatherproof high-brightness LCD totems installed at drive-thru approach points
  • Configured for pre-sale menu and promotional content
  • All units tested for visibility across varying daylight and weather conditions

Phase 3 – Ongoing Partnership

Outcomes

300 menu boards. Instant updates across every one.

A single CMS means a price change, a new LTO, or a promotional push goes live across every location simultaneously. No manual intervention required.

Drive-thru throughput improved

Outdoor totems let customers browse and decide before they reach the window, reducing decision time and improving throughput during peak periods.

Nine years of reliable infrastructure

A nine-year partnership built on consistent uptime, fast content updates, and a support model that keeps displays live around the clock.
