Overview

Thirty-two motorway service stations. Four brand partners. One infrastructure partner.

Welcome Break operates one of the UK’s largest motorway service station networks, serving millions of travellers each year across food, fuel, retail, and rest. Modernising its digital signage infrastructure meant solving a complex, multi-brand, multi-format challenge at scale, without disrupting operations at sites that trade around the clock.

IUF has been Welcome Break’s digital signage partner for seven years, delivering and managing a nationwide rollout across 32+ locations. The scope covers the Welcome Break estate itself and four food service brand partners: Pret A Manger, Burger King, Chopstix, and The Good Breakfast. Each required a tailored AV solution, from interactive allergen boards and dynamic digital menu boards to full LED fascia installations with automated day-part switching.

This is not a one-time installation. It is a long-term operational partnership delivering hardware, CMS integration, content management, and seven-day on-site support across a motorway service station network that cannot afford downtime.

Journey & Experience

Every brand. Every touchpoint. Every traveller, from the forecourt to the food court.

The digital signage network spans the full Welcome Break estate and each of its food service brand partners:

  • Large-format digital displays and LED totems – estate-wide, carrying live traffic updates, weather, brand campaigns, and essential traveller information across high-footfall zones
  • Pret A Manger – interactive allergen information boards and menu screens delivering clear, compliant product information at point of purchase
  • Burger King – dynamic digital menu boards supporting real-time updates to menus, pricing, and promotional content
  • Chopstix and The Good Breakfast – a 5m indoor LED fascia and digital menu boards with fully automated day-part switching, moving between morning and afternoon branding without any manual intervention

All content across every site and brand is managed centrally, giving Welcome Break and its partners the ability to push updates, run time-based menus, and respond to promotions across the full network simultaneously.

Testimonials

I am pleased to provide a reference for IUF based on our experience working together over the past few years. During this time IUF have supported Welcome Break across a number of new development and refurbishment projects. One of the most notable being our flagship Rotherham Services development on the M1, which marked Welcome Break’s first newly built motorway service area development in around 20 years. Throughout these projects the team have supplied and installed a range of digital solutions including large format media walls, digital menu boards and digital fascia displays. Their installations have consistently been delivered to a high standard and the team have been professional, organised and responsive throughout the full project lifecycle. IUF have also provided strong ongoing support once installations are complete. Communication is clear, issues are handled quickly and the team are proactive in ensuring systems remain operational and performing as expected. Based on our experience they are a reliable partner who consistently deliver quality work and we would have no hesitation in recommending IUF for projects involving the supply, installation and management of LED and LCD display solutions.
